Why these detailed profiles?
Blockchain technology has many applications, including in businesses. Cryptocurrencies are a key part of blockchain technology, enabling secure, transparent transactions. The product aimed to help businesses make informed decisions regarding their blockchain strategy and investments.
Scope
The project initially included both an investment component as well as an educational branch to teach users about blockchain strategy and cryptocurrency. However, due to the tight timeline and limited expertise, we scaled the project back to focus solely on cryptocurrency profiles.
Key Assumptions
Our project’s foundation was based on three key assumptions about business owners.
Business owners:
Understand how blockchain technology can be applied to their business
Are interested in integrating crypto and blockchain technology in their business
Primarily struggle to decide on which cryptocurrencies to include
Identifying Gaps in the Market
Early research revealed a major gap: existing platforms provided inconsistent and overwhelming information about cryptocurrencies. This analysis highlighted the need for a clearer way to present information about cryptos.
Key Findings:
01
Most platforms were trading websites that provided information about cryptocurrencies
02
Information wasn’t consistent across different cryptocurrencies, making it difficult to compare them
03
They focused mainly on financial data, with less focus on other uses
Informed Our Approach
These insights led us to focus on creating a tool that offered standardized crypto profiles, making it easier for business owners to compare and choose the best options for their business needs.
With this in mind, my team and I discussed the product’s features, landing on the following pages: the Dashboard, a sample Crypto Profile page, and a Search page.
Testing with Users
We conducted 3 usability testing sessions to gather feedback on the crypto profile system and also learn more about the participants’ experience with crypto.
However, the insights we gained were more about the users and their perceptions of the product rather than its usability.
Key Findings:
01
Users appreciated having access to information beyond market analysis, such as crypto use cases and mechanisms
02
All participants mentioned investment as the primary motivation for learning about cryptocurrency
03
Participants learned about crypto through YouTube, books, and social media
04
Some feedback focused on the interface’s visual design, such as the color palette, due to the limited interactivity in the prototype
Delivering the MVP Prototype
Scaling back the original intention for the project to work within the deadline, we settled on 2 main pages to show the core of the product.
Find a Crypto Page
This page displays all available cryptocurrencies on the platform, with multiple ways to explore them: filtering in the section below, using the search bar, or taking a quiz.
The quiz was originally intended to guide crypto novices, but after reviewing the questions, we saw it was targeted towards more advanced users but still kept it as another alternative for finding cryptos.
Crypto Profile Page: Solana
Our MVP offers standardized cryptocurrency profiles, ensuring consistency in the format and information included. Financial data is included, but the focus is on providing an in-depth understanding of each cryptocurrency.
This platform is not specifically a trading platform, but there are plans to include investment features and an educational aspect to teach novices about crypto and blockchain technology.
Takeaways:
01
Content influences layout especially in this case because blockchain is technically complex and thus the way the information is laid out can impact user understanding.
02
Talk to experts, especially if the topic is beyond your understanding, need an expert to bounce ideas off of
03
Conducting more preliminary research, especially on niche topics would help bolster and deepen understanding of the problem space resulting in a more informed approach
Reflection
From this project, I learned about the importance of adapting and narrowing the scope in order to ensure that we deliver a viable product especially in such a short timeframe. It was a valuable opportunity to collaborate with a team and dive into unfamiliar concepts like blockchain technology.
