Background

The client came to us with a problem they discovered through their own experience of researching cryptos. They found that sifting through multiple sources was time-consuming and difficult.

The sources for crypto are not beginner-friendly; they assume that the user has experience in crypto and they don’t include a range of information, it typically only pertains to trading.

With this in mind, how can you find out which cryptos are best for you? This is what my team aimed to solve.

Research

Before doing anything else, my team and I embarked on our own journeys to learn about crypto and become experts overnight. We were all very unfamiliar with crypto and needed a basic understanding to be able to understand what this product is meant to be.

Competitive Analysis

A common thread in the competitors that the client supplied were that they were all trading websites, so they followed a similar layout and highlighted financial information such as graphs and prices. Additionally, the information included on each cryptocurrency varied and there was a lack of standardization.

Who is our user?

Chris, 35
Our user is a business owner interested in incorporating blockchain technology into their business.
Goals:
  • Wants to learn more about blockchain technology
  • Wants to know what projects these cryptos are in
  • Compare and find cryptos best for his business
Pain Points:
  • Lack of knowledge about blockchain and crypto
  • Doesn’t have time to be sifting through multiple sources

Lo-fi design

We created a couple iterations of the lo-fi design. Initially, the quiz sat at the top and the filter was on the left side (version 1) but after some feedback from the client, we went back to the drawing board focusing on minimizing unused white space and making it less crowded.

Test

In preparation, I created a set of questions to learn more about the users, and set up 2 tasks for them to complete. Unfortunately, I did not noticed that we did not create another profile page so one of the usability questions that I included “compare 2 cryptos” was not able to be completed.

Overall, thoughts were positive and users suggested some visual design changes and features for future iterations.

Reflection

This project was quite tough because it was an unfamiliar topic my team and I had to learn very quickly about. There was a lot of back and forth, but overall the project went smoothly.

If there’s anything that I would change, it would be to double check the usability test questions and have another pair of eyes look it over.
